Devastating Floods and Landslides in Nepal: 195 Lives Lost

Kathmandu- relentless heavy rainfall has triggered severe floods and landslides across Nepal, claiming 195 lives as of Friday afternoon. The fatalities are spread across various provinces:

  • Kathmandu Valley: 3
  • Koshi Province: 27
  • Madhesh Province: 8
  • Bagmati Province: 36
  • Gandaki Province: 56
  • Lumbini Province: 37
  • Karnali Province: 13
  • Sudurpashchim Province: 15

In addition to the tragic loss of life, 247 people have been injured and are receiving medical treatment. The injured are distributed as follows:

  • Kathmandu Valley: 11
  • Koshi Province: 38
  • Madhesh Province: 12
  • Bagmati Province: 27
  • Gandaki Province: 47
  • Lumbini Province: 19
  • Karnali Province: 59
  • Sudurpashchim Province: 34

Rescue operations have successfully saved 210 individuals:

  • Kathmandu Valley: 28
  • Koshi Province: 49
  • Bagmati Province: 12
  • Gandaki Province: 14
  • Lumbini Province: 4
  • Karnali Province: 2
  • Sudurpashchim Province: 101

However, 49 people remain missing, and search efforts are ongoing. The missing are from:

  • Koshi Province: 2
  • Madhesh Province: 1
  • Bagmati Province: 41
  • Gandaki Province: 2
  • Lumbini Province: 1
  • Karnali Province: 1
  • Sudurpashchim Province: 1

The floods have caused extensive damage, submerging 408 houses and damaging 342 homes, 121 animal sheds, 51 bridges, 6 schools, and 2 government offices. Additionally, 909 livestock have perished, and 5,883 families have been displaced due to these disasters.

This natural calamity has significantly impacted the affected regions, with ongoing rescue and relief efforts striving to provide aid and support to those in need.
